Voting options: Prahran District by-election
Voting is your right. By voting, you get to have a say in who represents you in Parliament. That’s what our democracy is all about.
Voting is also a responsibility. If you don’t vote, you may get a $99 fine.
There are several ways you can vote in the Prahran District by-election.
Vote by post
Applications to vote by post in this by-election close at 6 pm on Wednesday 5 February 2025.
If you are already enrolled as a general postal voter, we will automatically post you your ballot pack. Please do not reapply.
We will post ballot packs out from Tuesday 21 January 2025.
Vote early
You can vote early from Wednesday 29 January to Friday 7 February.
You don't need a reason to vote early.
Vote on election day
You can vote at any voting centre on Saturday 8 February.
Election day voting centres are open between 8 am and 6 pm.
Braille ballot papers
If you're blind or vision impaired, we can send you a braille ballot paper in the mail.
Registrations for braille ballot papers closed at 5 pm on Tuesday 14 January. We cannot accept late registrations.
Vote by phone
You can register to vote by phone if you:
- are blind
- have low vision
- have a physical disability and need help to cast your vote.
Registration and voting opens on Wednesday 29 January.
Low-sensory voting
We will be running a low-sensory mobile voting session in January 2025.
During this session you will notice:
- dimmed lighting
- extra space around voting booths
- a temperature-controlled environment
- a quieter voting centre
- staff trained to support people with a hidden disability
