Upper house groups
Two or more Legislative Council (upper house) region election candidates can register a group in a state election.
Registering a group means these candidates will appear together on the ballot paper and a box will appear above the line. Groups appear before ungrouped candidates on the ballot paper.
Please note, group voting tickets no longer apply to Victoria’s upper house voting. Groups won’t register any group voting tickets.
Candidates who are not part of a group will only appear below the line on the ballot paper. Ungrouped candidates appear on the right edge of the ballot paper.
Group registrations for the 2026 state election:
- open Wednesday 4 November
- close at 12 noon on Monday 9 November.
Registering a group
Groups can be made up of:
- candidates endorsed by one registered political party
- candidates endorsed by multiple registered political parties
- at least two independent candidates.
Candidates can only be a part of one group.
Groups made up of one or more political parties can request a group name be included against their candidates box above the line.
All members of your group must have successfully nominated before you submit your group registration form. This form is in the candidate kit. Candidate kits will be available to download from this website from Wednesday 21 October. You can also pick up a hardcopy kit from an election office from Wednesday 4 November.
You must specify the order that members of your group will appear in on the ballot paper.
