Our people

Behind them, 2 others are seated near large windows with views of trees and office buildings. In the 2023–24 financial year, we focused on building a skilled workforce to support our strategic goals. We want our staff to have high levels of wellbeing and psychological safety, and to reflect the diversity of the communities we serve.

Our People Branch, formerly the Human Resources Branch, began improvements to our:

  • recruitment and onboarding processes
  • applicant tracking system
  • capability development framework, including designing a 'job family' library.

We also created the 'IDEA' framework to better incorporate inclusion, diversity, equity, and accessibility across the organisation. Working with the Education and Inclusion Team, we use staff feedback to guide our actions.

We reviewed learning and development programs and organisational initiatives and began work on our 'People hub', a platform for resources and information about branch services. This approach encourages a culture of learning to help our staff develop, and makes the VEC an employer of choice.

Our workforce grew from 191 in 2022–23 to 229 in 2023–24. Staff turnover was 12.44% in 2023–24, decreasing from 19.71% in 2022–23. The gender profile of our staff was 51.9% female, 47.2% male, and 0.9% self-described.

Our teams demonstrated resilience and adaptability, embracing changes with a strong commitment to operational effectiveness.
