Away during the Prahran District by-election?

If you're going to be away at any point between Wednesday 29 January and Saturday 8 February 2025, you can still vote in the Prahran District by-election.

Vote early

You can vote early between Wednesday 29 January and Friday 7 February 2025. We will share the early voting centre locations closer to the voting period.

Vote interstate or overseas

You can apply to vote by post if you will be interstate or overseas during the voting period.

Postal vote applications open at 9 am on Monday 23 December and close at 6 pm on Wednesday 5 February 2025.

We will post ballot packs out from Tuesday 21 January, after nominations have closed and all the candidates are confirmed.

Registered overseas voters

If you are living overseas and plan to return to Australia within 6 years of leaving, you can register as an overseas voter with the Australian Electoral Commission at aec.gov.au/overseas.

If you are already registered as an overseas voter and a general postal voter, we will post you a ballot pack after from Tuesday 21 January 2025. You don’t need to apply for a postal vote.

Tell us you are away

If you cannot use any of the above options, let us know by filling in an 'Away from Victoria' form.

This form is linked to your enrolment details. To fill in the form, please check your enrolment first, and then click the 'Away from Victoria' button.

Check your enrolment

You can also download an overseas notification form if you have left Australia indefinitely.

Keep evidence of your travel in case you receive an 'Apparent failure to vote notice' in the months after the by-election. This letter is your chance to explain why it appears you did not vote. This notice is not a fine.
