Electoral Commissioner temporarily hands over reins

Wednesday 16 November 2022

For immediate release

Electoral Commissioner, Warwick Gately, will take a leave of absence from this Friday evening to undergo important surgery that cannot be delayed. Deputy Electoral Commissioner, Dana Fleming, will be acting Electoral Commissioner until Mr Gately's return.

'I am disappointed that I will not be able to see the State election through to its end, but I have been working closely with Ms Fleming on the planning and delivery of this election for the last 18 months. Part of our business continuity process takes such a situation into account, and I expect a seamless transition,' Mr Gately said.

The Deputy Electoral Commissioner has the authority under the Electoral Act to perform all the duties of the Electoral Commissioner, where the Electoral Commissioner is unable to discharge the duties of the office.

Mr Gately is expected to resume his role in January 2023.
