The VEC launches Ngabun-Bambunj: Our first Aboriginal engagement plan

We are excited to launch our first ever Aboriginal Education and Engagement Plan – Ngabun-Bambunj.
The plan builds on our Statement on self-determination and improved outcomes for Aboriginal Victorians and seeks to embed these principles into our work.
The plan was gifted the name 'Ngabun-bambunj' by Ngurai Ilum Wurrung woman, Dr Mandy Nicholson. Ngabun-bambunj means 'courage, bold, brave' in the Woi Wurrung language.
'I am excited to see this plan in action. It is our hope that our work with the many and diverse Aboriginal communities across Victoria will truly make our state's democracy stronger,' Electoral Commissioner Sven Bluemmel said.
The plan also features a brilliant design by Dr Nicholson's daughter, Wurundjeri artist Ky-ya Nicholson Ward.
In our community engagement work, we are asking First Nations peoples to be courageous, to be bold, and to trust both us (the VEC) and the electoral process. We are building the belief that, by participating in the democratic process, First Nations people can make a difference and have a say in their futures.
