Maroondah City Council, Barngeong Ward by-election

A by-election will be held in Barngeong Ward in Maroondah City Council this December, after the resignation of Councillor Marijke Graham.

Voting

Voting in this by-election is by post. We have sent ballot packs to enrolled voters.

The ballot pack contains:

  • a ballot paper
  • candidate statements
  • a multi-language leaflet
  • a ballot paper envelope (for your vote to go in)
  • a reply-paid envelope (for your ballot paper envelope to go in).

How to vote

Follow the instructions in the ballot pack to complete your vote.

Before 6 pm on Friday 1 December, you must:

  • make sure your vote is in the mail
    or
  • drop it off at the election office.

Local post box clearance times differ. Check the clearance time on your post box to make sure your vote is in the mail on time.

My ballot pack has not arrived

If you are on the roll and you have not received your ballot pack, you can:

  • contact the election office on 03 9678 1488 to request a replacement
    or
  • visit the election office to get a replacement.

Who must vote?

You must vote if you are a state-enrolled voter as at 4 pm on Friday 6 October.

If you don't vote, you may get a fine.

Who can vote?

If you are a council-enrolled voter, we encourage you to vote, but you won't be fined if you don't. Find out more about council-enrolled voters.

If you own more than one property in the ward

You are enrolled once and will get one vote for this by-election.

If you are a state-enrolled voter, you are enrolled at your principal address only and must vote.

If you are a council-enrolled voter with more than one address in the ward, you are enrolled once and will get one ballot pack only.

If you are on the roll and do not get a ballot pack by Wednesday 22 November, contact the election office on 03 9678 1488 to request a replacement.

My ballot pack is lost or damaged

If you have lost your ballot pack, or your ballot pack is damaged, contact the election office on 03 9678 1488 to request a replacement.

I’m away or have changed address

You can request to have your ballot pack sent to a different address if:

  • you will be away when ballot packs are mailed (from Tuesday 14 November)
    or
  • your mailing address has changed since the close of roll (Friday 6 October).

If you have moved within or out of Barngeong Ward since Friday 6 October, you must vote or risk a fine.
