Suppressing your address

If you believe that your safety, or the safety of your family, could be in danger by having your address on the electoral roll, you can apply for silent elector status. As a silent elector your address will not be shown on future editions of the electoral roll; but you are still required to vote as normal in all applicable elections.

Enrol as a silent elector (PDF 123kB)

As a silent elector you must still keep your details up-to-date on the electoral roll by filling in a standard enrolment form each time you move house or change your name. You will also need to complete a new silent elector form each time you change your address.

Being granted silent elector status is not automatic. The decision is made by the Australian Electoral Commission (AEC). More information can be found at Australian Electoral Commission - silent electors (external link) or by calling the AEC on 13 23 26.

The enrolment forms provided on the VEC website are in PDF format. You need Adobe Acrobat Reader (external link) to view the files. If you are having trouble accessing the files or would prefer a hard copy, please contact the VEC.
