Privacy and political party registration information

One of the VEC's functions is the registration of political parties. This involves a number of related activities, including registering any change of details of a registered political party, the review of the registration of political parties and the de-registration of a political party if required. Each of these activities requires the VEC to collect personal information.

The VEC does not release any of the personal information that it receives in relation to political party registrations, except as required by the Electoral Act 2002.

We disclose political party information in the following ways:

Inspection of the Register of Political Parties
The VEC must make the Register of Political Parties available for public inspection. The register must include the name and address of the registered officer of the political party. The register is available online, and at the VEC office free of charge.
Publication of notices of application for registration
The VEC must publicly advertise, and publish in the Victoria Government Gazette, a notice of the application for registration of a political party. The notice must include the name and address of the registered officer of the political party.
