For immediate release

The Victorian Electoral Commission (VEC) has received an application from the United Australia Party to voluntarily deregister as a political party in Victoria..

Under Victoria’s electoral laws registered political parties are permitted to apply for deregistration with the VEC in accordance with section 53 of the Electoral Act 2002.

The United Australia Party, or a party with a name that closely resembles the United Australia Party, cannot reregister as a political party until after the 2026 State election.

An unregistered party can still participate at elections, but will not be able to:

  • have its name and logo next to its candidates’ names or group on the ballot papers
  • submit candidate nominations or how-to-vote cards in bulk with the VEC
  • access enrolment information for permitted purposes.
